The locksmith and security industry, just as with any other industry, is full of terms and jargon. To help our Bloomington IL Locksmith and Normal IL Locksmith customers, we are sharing simple explanations of commonly used terms:
- High Security Keys: These keys provide additional security over regular keys. The way the key is cut, along with the lock, are what provide these keys their “high security” status.
- High Security Locks: These locks provide additional security over regular locks. The design of the locks internal components and high security key are what give these locks their “high security” status.
- Restricted Keys: These keys are much more difficult to duplicate than typical keys, which ensures that only authorized people have access to your home or business. Duplication of restricted keys are often limited to a specific locksmith and require additional authorization/verification for duplication.
- Master Key Systems: These systems allow for 2 or more keys to open locks on the system. Master lock systems can be used to provide different levels of authorization/access to individuals, while reducing the number of keys that are needed to be carried. Master key systems are often used in businesses, schools, hospitals, and in other commercial environments.
- Keyed Alike: This design allows all locks to be opened by just one key. This is a popular choice for homeowners.
